A.R. Rahman nominated for Golden Globe
Indian composer A.R. Rahman has been nominated at the 66th Golden Globe awards in the 'Best Original Score- Motion Picture' category for his acclaimed compositions in the British movie 'Slumdog Millionaire'. The film, based on Indian diplomat Vikas Swarup's novel Q&A and entirely shot in Mumbai and other parts of India with most dialogues in Hindi, has also been nominated for Best Film, Best Director and Best Screenplay awards. But Indian entries 'Jodha Akbar' and 'Taare Zamin Par' were not considered for a nomination in the Best Foreign Film category. Read more »
'Tulpan' top winner at 39th International Film Festival of India
Goa- A film from Kazakhstan- 'Tulpan'- co-produced by Germany, Switzerland, Russia and Poland, directed by Sergei Dvortsevoy won Golden Peacock award as the curtains came down on the 39th edition of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, India, Tuesday, December 2, 2008. COLOGNE, Germany- The Italian crime mosaic Gomorra (Gomorrah) was the big winner at the 2008 European Film Awards (EFAs). Sir Ben Kingsley and Danny Boyle pay tribute to Mumbai as ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ wins top British award
London-"It's a city with a big heart that's been wounded this week, but it will recover," said Danny Boyle, ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ director, referring to the terrorists attacks that killed about 200 people in Mumbai last week. Shah Rukh Khan overshadows Bachchans at IIFA finale
He wasn't even there but he did overshadow the Bachchans- the Mega Family of Bollywood. There were many who doubted the integrity of the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA Awards). IIFA is too close to Bachchans, was the oft-repeated allegation. But as the winners of IIFA 2008 were announced in the Thai capital Bangkok Sunday, June 8, there were many who felt finally the credibility of the IIFA was restored. Awards were not 'fixed' as some lamented earlier. Shah Rukh Khan starrer "Chak De!
